Boardman Park & Recreation District (BPRD) was formed in 1966 as an Oregon Special District.
When the town of Boardman was moved due to the flooding
caused by the construction of the John Day Dam, the US Army Corps of Engineers
retained property ownership in flood-prone areas. The Corps constructed a campground,
boat harbor and marina, day use area and restrooms for community use
along the banks of the river in Boardman.
BPRD leases the approximately 141 acres along the Columbia River from the US Army Corps of Engineers and operates it as a public park. Boardman Park & Recreation DIstrict is run by a 5-person board of directors
who are elected by voters within the district to 4-year terms of office. A permanent
tax rate of $0.2989/thousand of assessed valuation allows the Park to levy taxes
each year for operation and maintenance.
A fulltime staff of two employees is
enhanced each summer by approximately 25-30 parttime staff, who are busy with
the popular campground and Summer Recreation Programs. Summer Recreation Program is a FREE 5-week long
supervised program for children.
